Where It All Started: Emily and John
We have been running Food at 52 since 2008 with the first four years operating from our home kitchen (which happens to be at number 52!).
Food at 52 isn't your typical cookery school and that's how we like it!
We've always wanted it to feel more like a dinner party than a classroom. There's wine, there's music and there's a lot of laughter. People tell us they feel like they've stepped into someone's home, and that's exactly our aim.
We love travelling and our authentic menus reflect the exciting range of dishes we have discovered from around the world.
Whether it's Indian street food, or a full day of fish filleting, it's all about building confidence. You don't need to know what a chiffonade is to walk through the door. It's not about showing off, it's about showing up, getting stuck in, and discovering the joy of cooking. It's serious food, serious fun.
Chapter 2: Food at 52 comes to the Algarve
We have some exciting news... Food at 52 is coming to Portugal! Emily and John fell in love with the charming fishing village of Olhão a few years ago. So much so, they have bought and renovated a beautiful house in the centre of town and will soon be offering relaxed interactive cook and dine experiences in their homely kitchen at Casa Braga. Making good use of the bustling fish market on the doorstep, guests can expect a visit to the market and learn how to select, prepare and cook a range of dishes using fresh fish and seafood. Free flowing wine and good vibes (as always) included!
